"THE SUPERMODIFIEDS" | You put 24,count 'em twenty-four.light weight, open wheeled,900 horsepower, sprint cars,on a short, paved, high banked, oval track. Now you've got a show that's hard to beat anywhere on earth. This photo was taken at Oswego speedway in New York. The track is a 5/8 mile egg-shape oval, located across the street from Lake Ontario. Here the supers have been known to reach speeds in the neighborhood of 150 mph,on the straightaways. Then they turn left and do it again. At Star speedway,a 1/4 mile track where top qualifiers turn laps in under 12 secs., Drivers from all around the country, and many from Canada gather for a 200 lap event. You really have to witness this to realize the true intensity of it all. On my other racing page you will find a link to the 1999 touring schedule for ISMA. This is the official sanctioning body for the supermodifieds. | HEY! This is fun.You should go to fortunecityand get your own 20 MB web space "FREE"

ON the smaller tracks ,the supermodifieds use an aerodynamicly designed wing on the
top. Some teams choose to use a fixed wing, but the majority use hydraulic cylinders
which allow the wing to level off as they accelerate, allowing for cleaner air-flow.
Then during braking the wing raises up at the rear, creating downforce on the rear
of the car for improved cornering.
